Gay Marriage

The further in to this political rabbit hole I go…..I am finding a disappointing trend among Conservatives-that is inconsistency. The inability to stay constant in an ideology. True conservatism is defending individual liberty and limiting the governments role in our every day lives. Less regulation, less infringement, less taxes, less bureaucracy, less overreach and more individual freedom. The simple concept of getting the government out of our lives and allowing the individual the ability to choose what is best for ones-self. Don’t you know what’s best for YOU-over some dude in DC in an overpriced suite? I do. I also think the vast majority of Americans do.

With the recent crazy madness of “Boycott Indiana ” making the news over this last week it has spurred lively discussion and heated debate. I have had twitter debates over -Individual freedom, the protection of our 1st amendment rights and whether or not discrimination is illegal. Because of all this, I feel compelled to address the inconsistency I am witnessing among those in my own camp.

Ok….so….where is this  “inconsistency?”

With all the way over dramatized reaction by the media over Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, let’s be honest-the heart of the matter comes down to Gay Marriage.

My personal views are my own, they align with what my faith says and that is marriage is between a man and a woman….but I shouldn’t push what my faith says on the government-nor should the government be involved in marriage at all. I know this is my libertarian side shining through….but my argument here is consistency.

After all….marriage is a religious sacrament. It is the joining of two to become one- through sacred vows before God under a religion. So….why is the government involved in this?

If we as Conservatives, truly want less government infringement, why are we pushing that government play a role in marriage at all? We have to be consistent. No one believes what you say if you are not consistent. If I tell my three year old son he has to finish his vegetables in order to get dessert, but then I turn and give him dessert when he hasn’t finished his vegetables I am being inconsistent and he won’t take me seriously.

If we as Conservatives want to be taken seriously, if we want people to understand, grasp and believe in our platform of less government, than we have to be consistent.

So….what exactly am I saying?

I am saying that the government should only be involved in the legal side of both heterosexual and homosexual unions.

Should a gay couple be entitled to the same individual rights as a straight couple -yes, of course without a doubt.

I propose Civil Unions for all. I also propose (and I can’t believe I have to say this) that this union be with a human. Your dog cannot make logical decisions on your property or affairs when you die, and your hamster can’t be claimed as a dependent on your taxes….

Therefore CHURCHES and religious affiliations will recognize marriage-because as mentioned above-Marriage is a religious sacrament.

I would also add as a mother, I see the vital and essential roles that a father and a mother play in my children’s daily lives. I think that kids need that gender balance and greatly desire it. But having the government involved in marriage has not prevented children from being raised in single gender homes.

I know I will probably get a lot of flack for this….but I have to be real. This is not a liberal ideology….liberalism today has become socialism and this in fact is the complete opposite of socialism because it removes the governments involvement from marriage all together.

Let’s ask ourselves the tough question- just where do we stand on big government in every aspect of our lives?

I have hope

Last Tuesday evening I attended my GOP Organizational meeting……I was kinda skeptical….because I had talked to two other family members who didn’t enjoy there’s so much. My younger sister said she literally walked into a nursing home at hers (no offense to those in nursing homes) but my sister said she was the youngest one there by about 30 years! My dad’s county is having a helluva hard time being open to change, hearing new ideas, welcoming new people, embracing all walks of life….they are perfectly fine with average….they have no desire to be exceptional or welcome those who are exceptional.

So hey…..I’ll admit, I was like a little bit of a cynic at the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting.

What happened though at my organizational meeting gave me hope. We elected a chairman that had not been part of the poltical hoopla! Now he has done some things to promote the Conservative cause-but he’s not part of that insider click….which is so refreshing! I’ll admit, I was scared as hell, when he spoke at a meeting I was at a month ago, and a women in the audience yelled out “I don’t know you, I have never seen you, how do I know what you stand for!?” Ughhhhh when I heard that I wanted to run over to that woman and say: “YOU are part of the problem! You don’t want anything new and that’s why we keep losing elections!” But…..I held my tongue 😉 So…..I didn’t think this guy stood a chance….and I was totally wrong!!! We got a new guy at the helm and I am excited. We also elected a young millenial as our county treasurer, a grass roots Conservative as our Secretary and an ex-Californian mother of two as our Vice chair!

I was given a sense of change is coming….a good change…..a change for the better….a change and call for returning to our roots and electing the best person for the job!

Ya see…..I have watched candidates in other counties in other elections….lose because they were new or different. They had not put in enough volunteer hours at the phone banks, they hadn’t walked enough precincts, they hadn’t mailed out enough envelopes, they hadn’t served on enough campaigns…..they hadn’t “earned” their spot.

I think this whole idea of “earning” a spot has created this career politician mentality. These people that earn their spots have been part of the political class for years! They become so immersed that they lose touch with the small businessman, the single mom working two jobs, the young millenials….these people form their groups, and if you aren’t part of the group-then you don’t stand a chance at getting elected into anything……ya it’s a flash back to high school!

I didn’t see this from my county though. I was so proud and excited when I left my meeting on Tuesday, because the right people were elected….not those that expected to be elected because they had “earned” it.

I grew up with a father that worked harder than anyone I had every known. He raised seven children with my mother, he has put all his children through college, he has started businesses, he has taken risks, he has always been there when I needed a shoulder to cry on, he’s coached little leagues, he’s cheered me on in every thing I have set out to accomplish, he is the definition of the capitalism dream, he has honored God in every area of his life and never held a political office, not because he’s never ran for office but because …..in his county….you have to “earn” it.

I am just glad I live in a county that is waking up. My hope and prayer is that other counties in the country begin to wake up! That the permanent political class is ousted and that we begin electing citizens of the people and for the people. That we return to our roots of true conservatism and the BEST man or woman is elected to serve-this is what our forefathers intended.

Tuesday, gave me that hope.

I am with The Party of Choice

I was recently shared this video below and I wanted to share it with you guys.

What’s really amusing to me is the so called “party of choice,” allows for no choice. The Democratic party once touted the ideology of classic Liberalism-the ability to choose for yourself, but this is no longer anywhere in their platform. In fact they would rather put all your personal choices in the governments hands….because the government knows best 😉 Thus, the creation of a NANNY STATE, because you don’t know what’s best for you. I wrote a blog a while back going off about “choice”-you can read it here, below is an excerpt:

They (the government) would like to make ALL decisions for you. In fact they don’t want you to choose anything!

They don’t want you to CHOOSE what school you send your kids to.

They don’t want you to CHOOSE what your kids eat when they are at school.

They don’t want you to CHOOSE what you use to defend yourself from harm with.

They don’t want you to CHOOSE your own healthcare.

They don’t want you to CHOOSE your own doctor, and if you like your doctor…ya can’t keep em’ fyi.

They don’t even want you to CHOOSE what kind of car you drive, because your car might blow up the planet! (ultimate sarcasm)

They don’t want you to CHOOSE ANYTHING!!! For real…

Unless….you are choosing to well…you know…get rid of that cluster of cells…that science would call LIFE.

The Government wants to make all grown up decisions for you….because in their eyes-you’re an idiot!

Being a true Conservative, is being for individual freedom, and with that you are given the right to choose what is best for you! Watch this video! What do you think? Why are you a conservative!?

Liberalism vs Conservatism

Ha ha I keep finding clips from Dumb and Dumber that I can relate to politically…..(hmmmm maybe that says something :/)

There are MANY differences between Liberalism and Conservatism, one of the very basic fundamental differences is government intervention. In defining the difference between Liberalism and Conservatism on this topic-I thought of this clip-

Liberalism is like having someone else drive the car for you (The Government). They think they really know what they are doing, but-the government is just made up of people -and lot’s of them are total morons! I don’t understand why one would advocate giving the government more power???  It’s putting an incredible amount of trust in another person (a stranger actually) other than yourself.

Conservatism is YOU driving the car. Now, I get you might not consider yourself a “good” driver-but ya gotta be better than Loyd Christmas 😉

Both hold some sort of risk. But when someone else is driving the car, your individual freedom is limited!

I prefer Freedom!
