President Trump has just signed an Executive Order to keep families who are illegally crossing the border together, after they are detained.
The Executive order just signed by President Trump, instructs our Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, to “request” a court waiver from the 20 -day limit for holding a child in shelters at the border.
My last blog mentioned that children are not allowed to be held longer than 20 days at a shelter after they illegally cross the border. This is reference to a Supreme Court Case known as Flores v. Reno, or the “Flores agreement.” In 1985, Jenny Lisette Flores, an unaccompanied 15-year-old girl from El Salvador, was apprehended after illegally attempting to cross the Mexico-United States border. She was held among adults of both sexes and strip searched every day. She was informed that she would ONLY be released to her parents. The conditions of being detained with adults caused controversy and lead to a ruling by the Supreme Court; In which they ruled that children detained should NOT be held with adults, for the safety of the child. The Trump Administration adhered to this ruling and have been separating children from their parents (which for the safety of the children, I think is a GOOD idea). Well the Mainstream Media and The Liberal Left have chosen to lose their crap over Trump enforcing the current law. We have seen pictures of children crying and the Mainstream Media’s emotional manipulation has been insane over the last week!
Today President Trump, in an attempt to appease the emotional outrage, signed an Executive Order stating children may stay with their parents after they are detained at the border.
The Executive Order states that: The Attorney General shall promptly file a request with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to modify the Settlement Agreement in Flores v. Sessions, CV 85-4544 (“Flores settlement”), in a manner that would permit the Secretary, under present resource constraints, to detain alien families together throughout the pendency of criminal proceedings for improper entry or any removal or other immigration proceedings.
I am a mom. My NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS TO PROTECT MY CHILDREN. Regardless of what Liberal Tantrum would have been thrown my way, I wouldn’t have signed this Exec Order. Why? Because I think that children being around Adult criminals –regardless if they are with their parents or not, is unsafe. I do however understand President Trump’s decision to do this. He understands, along with those that read this blog, that most people are totally uninformed and get their news from the mainstream media. Most have no idea why children were being separated, they were just being played emotionally. Trump had to make a tough decision and he did. Now my hope is Congress ACTS and implements REAL immigration reform. We HAVE to secure our border in order to deter children from crossing a desert, to then be raped, sex trafficked or murdered. An open border is not compassion, it’s heartless.
