NATO investigates deadly Afghan helicopter crash

It’s Sunday, and typically this is our day of rest. But with laundry piling up, the dog dragging in who knows what, and the kids continuing to leave the doors open in 105 degree weather (God bless Texas) rest somehow doesn’t seem to come very easily. However, with a quick look at the news, reality came crashing down again.
By now, most of us have heard about the horrible crash that took the lives of 30 of America’s finest. According to this Reuters report, this is the single largest loss of life incident in ten years of war. It is also a reminder that, as we continue on with our daily lives, sleeping in cozy beds, drinking coca-cola and watching old episodes CSI, there is still a war raging on. Read More→
Thirty U.S. soldiers — some from the Navy’s special forces SEAL Team 6, the unit that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden — seven Afghans and an interpreter died in Friday night’s crash, just two weeks after foreign troops began a security handover to Afghan forces.
The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility for bringing down the helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade. Although it often exaggerates incidents involving foreign troops, a U.S. official in Washington said the helicopter was believed to have been shot down.
Please remember, it is because of the thousands of these brave men and women, putting their lives on the line in the name of Freedom, that we are afforded the luxuries we have today. Even though they don’t get the luxury of sharing them while we do.
